Today, a high school group from Dover-Sherborn in Massachusetts arrived in Greenville, Maine to stay at our motel, Indian Hill Motel. This is an enthusiastic group of kids, eager to experience the Maine outdoors and are excited to head into the Appalachian Mountain Club land to enjoy a weekend of cross country skiing and most have said to hopefully see a Maine moose.
The students and 4 trip leaders arrived at 2 and spent the afternoon enjoying the Moosehead Lake Region by ice fishing and cross country skiing in to Lily Bay State Park. After sucking back tons of hot cocoa and warming up in the lobby of the motel, they headed to Flatlanders Pub for dinner to then return to the motel for a meet and greet with the AMC cross country ski leaders taking them from hut to hut for a weekend in the woods.
The AMC offers you to experience lodge-to-lodge skiing in the Maine Woods. All you need to do is travel light and you can reserve a private cabin with wood stove, hot shower or sauna, and home-cooked dinner waiting for you at day's end. The AMC ski trail network is groomed (without set tracks) - intermediate skills and comfort with skiing backcountry are required. You can stay at Indian Hill Motel upon arrival in Greenville the day before your excursion into the AMC woods and plan to stay with us when you head south on your departure day.
Our guests, including this outdoorsy group, have found this arrangement to be very convenient and accommodating as a pre-trip or stayover plan.
We hope that Dover-Sherborn visits Greenville, Maine, Indian Hill Motel and the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) year after year for a great way to explore the beauty this area offers year round and for today's purpose, the winter and cross country skiing in Maine.
